MARGARET ANN MILLER

April 17, 1936 — May 3, 2019

My family and grandparents welcomed me to the old Goodsell farm on Pierce Road in Nelson Township on April 17, 1936.

During my early years I attended Nelson Schools and graduated from James A. Garfield High School. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education which was followed by a Masters degree in Reading Specialization and Administration from Kent State University. I then spent 30 years serving the children of the Windham Exempted Village Schools as their 2nd Grade teacher and later as their elementary principal at Katherine Thomas Elementary.

My first marriage to James L. Corey (divorced and deceased) produced three children, Theresa Corey Bishop (Teryl) of The Villages, Florida; Bruce Corey (Jan) of Burton; and Brenda Corey Miller (Kyle) of Warren. My second marriage in 1969 to Howard (Howdy)Miller (now deceased) brought an additional 5 boys to the household. Jeff Miller (Phyllis) of Garrettsville; Scott Miller (Tina) of Mesquite, Texas; and Todd, Robert and Russell Miller who are deceased. As you can imagine, with a crew that size, there were always extras around that became a part of the Miller compound. One in particular, Lynn McCoy (Glenna)who still reside there today.

Grandkids....yup, there’s a bunch of them. 14 to be exact and at the moment, 23 great grandchildren. The latest one literally showed up on April 17.

When I retired in 1995, Howdy and I travelled to many distant places....Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska , Hawaii and points in between. I guess that is why my daughter Terry thought I could navigate the Orlando airport on my own....and did. Sadly, we lost Howdy in 2005 to complications from Alzheimer’s. His laughter and antics are truly missed by all.

Since 2013, I have been spending the winter months in The Villages, Florida with Terry and Teryl and subsequently made friends quickly. I even learned to play Mahjong and get around The Villages in a golf cart! Upon my return in April 2018, I began to look at simplifying life and began a search for an assisted living apartment. Little did I know that life would take a turn when I broke my leg in May and ended up at Anna Maria in Aurora a little earlier than anticipated. I was planning on sticking around a bit longer but in October of 2018, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Lymphoma and decided, along with the family, not to do the brutal Chemotherapy regime, but rather live out my days in comfort and elected to go with Hospice. My family, the staff at Anna Maria of Aurora and Hospice of the Western Reserve took great care of me. I passed on Friday morning, May 3 and have chosen to be cremated and joined together with my husband, Howdy Miller.

Arrangements entrusted by Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center Street, Garrettsville, Ohio.
