Martha Jane Boberg, 78, of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2023. Martha was known as "Marti" by all who knew and loved her. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 27, 1945, beloved daughter of the late Dr. Charles E. and Marjorie L. Shiffer.
Marti grew up in Beachwood, Ohio, graduating from Beachwood High School in 1963 and then attending Wittenberg University, where she majored in psychology and was active with her sorority, Delta Gamma. After graduating in 1967, she worked in the Psychiatry Department of the Cleveland Clinic. In 1968, Marti was married and raised two beloved daughters, Christine Marie and Erin Ann. She devoted herself to being the best mother a child could ever hope for, ensuring that her daughters had a childhood that was well-rounded, happy, and filled with love. Marti put down roots and blossomed in Twinsburg, Ohio, raising her daughters there and becoming actively involved in the community. She attended Faith United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Delta Gamma-Cleveland East Alumnae chapter, Chagrin Valley Ladies Tennis League, and USTA leagues in Hudson and Medina. A proficient tennis player, Marti coached girls tennis at R.B. Chamberlin High School for three years, fostering a love of tennis among many young women.
When the 1980s brought life challenges and changes, Marti's unwavering optimism, strength, and resilience guided her through and prepared her for new adventures. In 1989 she was swept off her feet and onto a sailboat by Bob Boberg, the love of her life. From then on, Marti and Bob were inseparable, enjoying many sailing adventures and creating a happy life together in Medina, Ohio. True to her ambitious and energetic spirit, Marti held a variety of jobs, from banking and retail to teaching. She most enjoyed working as an Instructional Paraprofessional for Medina City Schools, serving as a beloved teacher, mentor, and friend to many children. Her duties included everything from lunchroom monitor to assisting special education students with reading and teaching computer skills. Marti's wonderful rapport with children and her kind, fun-loving spirit made her an amazing Nana to Ian, Colin, and Violet, her cherished grandchildren. Summers and holidays were spent visiting with them and other relatives, since family was so important to Marti. She also loved her friends, enjoying many lively games of cards, tennis, and golf and fun-filled gatherings and trips together.
More than anything, Marti cared deeply about the people she loved. She nurtured relationships, always looking for ways to be kind, helpful, and thoughtful in both her words and actions. She was intuitive and selfless; whatever you needed, whether a word of encouragement or a shoulder to cry on, she was there for you. To know Marti was to know true kindness and unconditional love. She is greatly missed and will be forever loved.
Marti is survived by her husband, Robert Boberg; daughters, Christine Housel (Trey Greer) and Erin Housel; stepchildren Michael Boberg and Genie Sams (Bryan); grandchildren, Ian Gillette, Colin Sams, and Violet Sams; brother-in-law Gene Boberg (Diane); and nieces, nephews, a cousin, and many friends, all dearly loved.
