MARY LAURA GRUBAUGH

November 5, 1942 — January 11, 2023

On Tuesday, January 11, 2023, Mary Laura Grubaugh (nee Lent) loving mother of four children, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of one, passed away at the age of 80. Mary was born November 5, 1942, in East Millsboro, PA to Mary and Jim Lent.

She was the youngest of six children. As a child she was nicknamed Cookie both because of her love of sweets and her sweet disposition. While she was an amazing real estate agent, her family was her life. She leaves behind a family who truly loved and cherished her. Her daughters Diana Lamphear, Sherry Jenko and Julie Jacono, and her son, Lester Grubaugh, her son-in-laws Mark, Larry and Frank, her grandchildren Chris, Jaime (fiancé Selena), Kasandra (husband Daniel), Saundra, Breean (Husband Daniel), Sydney, Sophia and Frankie, and her newest great granddaughter Luna. This family is her legacy.
Mary was an amazing cook and bringing her family together over fellowship and food was everything to her. She was the happiest surrounded by the chaos and noise of a family gathering. Throughout her life, she cherished her pets almost as much as her kids. Every dog or cat found love and affection from Mary, her little poodle Candy and her cats Bella and Savanna brought her tremendous joy.

As a real estate agent in the Brunswick area, Mary connected with people and made them part of her family. Her long-time real estate partner and friend, Margaret Prinz, were together so much that their names blended, Mary & Margaret. Christmas was her absolute favorite time of the year, and she would often leave decorations up through January to hold onto the Christmas beauty as long as possible. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Ambrose and adored Father Bob. Her love of sweets continued through her life and even towards the end her family could always get her to take a bit of a dessert.

She was a resident of Mt. Alverna Village for the past 4 years and bonded with many of the amazing caregivers there, Margaret Mary, Sister Angela and Ali especially were blessings to her. While Alzheimer’s may have slowly erased her memories and abilities, her smile, laugh and love will never vanish from our hearts and minds. As her grandson Frankie said, “Now Nanna remembers us again!”.

The family will be hosting a celebration of her life and prayer service at Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services in Brunswick on Tuesday January 17, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the prayer service starting at 6:00 pm. Burial will be a private ceremony on Wednesday January 18, 2023.
