Mary Jane Shoemaker, 78, of Shalersville, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was born August 10, 1945, in Youngstown, to the late Paul E. and Mary G. (Kirby) Nixon.
She was a teacher at Immaculate Conception School in Ravenna for 20 years. Mary Jane was an accomplished pianist with the ability to play by ear as well as read music. While in high school, Mary Jane won a competition to play with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. She accompanied many musicals at Crestwood High School and continued to share her love of music with others. Children were the joy of her life and she loved doing fun activities with them; Mary Jane spent her entire life bringing joy to others.
Mary Jane will be deeply missed by her loving husband, James "Jim" Shoemaker, who was blessed to share over 35 years of marriage with her; children, Robert Lyle, Murph (Kelli) Lyle, and Dianna (Ken) Makar; bonus children, Rebeccah (Daniel) Sidari and James Shoemaker; grandchildren, Justin, Randi (Taylor), Dennis, Evie, Brooke, and Chase; great grandchildren, Piper and Carlyle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert T. Lyle; beloved grandson, Sam Head, and sisters, Virginia Menster and Pauline Nixon.
Please join the family for a visitation Sunday, November 12, 2023, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH, 44231. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 13, 2023, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11045 St Joseph Blvd, Mantua, OH 44255, with Fr. Robert Pfeiffer officiating. Mary Jane will then be taken to Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, where she will be lovingly laid to rest.
