MAX "SMITTY" SMITH

October 11, 1915 — October 7, 2016

Max “Smitty” F. Smith, 100, of Hiram, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 7, 2016. He was born on October 11, 1915 in Wallaceburg, Ontario. As a baby, he was adopted by Glenn and Evelyn (Sutter) Smith of Detroit, Michigan. Max married Bernice Smith on September 16, 1938.

He was a well-known business man and charismatic store owner. Max loved to fish and hunt. He was an avid magazine reader. He fought for his country in WWII on the European front.

Max is survived by his son, Ronald (JoAnn) Smith; daughter, Sue (Charles) Hofstetter; grandchildren, Kurt (Annette) Smith, Sheri (Frank Geisler) Smith, Jennifer (Todd) Gandee, and Joe (Janel) Hofstetter and great-grandchildren, Kameron, Noelle and CJ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; companion of 10 years, Mamie Dunn and siblings, Gordon and Leila.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home. Graveside Service to be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016, 10:30 AM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio with full military honors.
