MAXINE E. NIMTZ

June 27, 1926 — July 3, 2022

MAXINE EVELYN NIMTZ (nee Morgan), passed away July 3, 2022. Born June 27,1926 in Chatham, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Manning Earl and Velma Leota (Logan) Morgan.

Mother of Roderick Evan Nimtz and Maurine Elaine Nimtz Amann (husband Scott), grandmother of Jordan Nicole (husband Sergey Khalikulov) and Jillian Layne Amann; also survived by niece Karen Bremer of Huntington, West Virginia.

A fourth-generation teacher in the Morgan family, after graduating from Chatham Collegiate Institute and receiving her teaching certificate from the London Normal School (London, Ontario), she taught in a one-room school at Vosburg S.S. #9 in southwestern Ontario, and later at Victor Lauriston School in Chatham, Ontario. She married Roderick Lewis Nimtz on July 1, 1950 at the Chatham Baptist Church and moved to Cleveland where she taught at Wooster School in Rocky River and Normandy Elementary School in Bay Village while earning a bachelor's in education from Baldwin Wallace College in 1954. Music was always a great part of her life, both singing in church choirs and as a soloist.

Growing up in Chatham she was guest soloist on the radio program "Organ Memories" on CFCO which was broadcast from the Alexander Funeral Home (then the Campbell Funeral Home). Active in church throughout her life, she was a member of the Chatham Baptist Church, Lakewood Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church (Youngstown), First Baptist Church of Greenhills (Cincinnati), and Garrettsville United Methodist Church, and was a winter member of the Siesta Key Chapel Presbyterian Church in Florida. Moving to Garrettsville in 1984, she participated in the Crescent Chapter #7 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Twentieth Century Club, Garrettsville United Church Women and church choir, and delivered Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister-in-law Lois Bremer, and niece Laura Lee Quinn.

Please join the family for a visitation on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm with a funeral service following at 5:00 pm at Garrettsville United Methodist Church 8223 Park Avenue Garrettsville, Ohio 44231. Rev. Dr. Richard Thewlis officiating. Internment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery with a graveside service at 2 pm on Friday, July 8, in Thamesville, Ontario, Canada.
