Michael Kovalcin Jr., age 87, of Parma, passed away September 10, 2017. He was born December 21, 1929 in Hastings, Pennsylvania to the late Michael and Mary (nee Prestash) Kovalcin Sr.
Mike was a proud United States veteran, serving his country in the Korean War. He retired from Chevy in 1987 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Parma VFW, Chevette Club, and an usher at St Mary and St. Emilian Byzantine Catholic Churches. Mike had a true passion for all sports and he served as an usher at Cleveland Municipal Stadium and Cleveland Arena. A devoted Penn State fan, he spent many years following the Nittany Lions across many states. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved daughter, Kathie (Ernest) Taylor; grandchildren, Tammy (Jerry) Lough, Matthew Taylor; great grandchildren, James Goodman Jr., Brian Pletcher, Mya Pletcher; sister, Elizabeth Whites; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dottie; his parents; and granddaughter, Tanya Harshberger; great granddaughter, Shelby Goodman; brother, Peter; and sister, Mary Chigas.
Friends may join the family for visitation Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road, (1/2 mile south of Route 303) Brunswick, OH 44212. Parastas Services to be held at 7 pm during visitation. Funeral Service will be Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:00 am with a one-hour prior visitation from 10 to 11 am at St. Emilian Byzantine Catholic Church, 1231 Substation Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212. (Please meet at church) Interment to follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
