Michael S. Orban, 107, of Garrettsville, died Saturday, March 26, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 16, 1909 in Glenn’s Run, OH to Rose Kasper and Lesli Szazs.
He grew up in the Ohio-West Virginia area along the Ohio River where his step-father worked in the coal mines. The family moved north when many of the coal mines shut down. The family bought the farm in Hiram Township in the late 1930’s. He moved to Cleveland to work at Midland Steel as a welder for 23 years. It was there that he met his wife Ann and they were married July 1, 1939. In 1948 the family moved back to the farm.
Once back on the farm, he farmed, worked construction and eventually owned his own business, Ideal Taping. He drywalled houses all over northeastern Ohio and many in the Garrettsville area.
He was an avid Ohio State football and Cleveland Indians fan. He was made a lifetime member of the Garrettsville Eagles.
Survivors include daughters Carol (Gary) Bott of Hiram Township and Rosemary Sergi of North Royalton, grandchildren Mike (Lisa), Terri (Rick), Rusty, Diane (Jim), Lisa S., and Scott; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ann in 1995, mother, step-father John, brothers John and Alex and sisters Julia and Mary.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Tuesday March 29, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services 8382 Center St. Garrettsville, OH 44231. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 10:30 AM also at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Hiram Ohio.
