Norma Bennett Sargent, 84, of Mantua, OH, passed away on August 19, 2018 in Hiram, OH, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of James E. Sargent; they spent 50 years of marriage together.
Born in Youngstown, OH, on November 10, 1933 she was the daughter of Gerald E. and Mildred L. Bennett. Norma graduated from Hiram high School in 1951 and went on to Ohio University to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Prior to teaching two years in Germany for the children of the US Military Norma taught in Solon and Hamden. Norma returned to start a family and had an illustrious career in the Cardinal School System before retiring in 1991. One of the many awards that Norma received was “Teacher of the Year” for her outstanding career as a teacher.
Norma was a member of Hiram Christian Church. She enjoyed camping and reading but mostly enjoyed a good laugh with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and caring personality. Norma touched many lives during her time on earth and will be missed by many.
Norma is lovingly remembered by her sister, Jacquelyn (Bryson deceased) Swanda, Hiram, OH, children Jennifer (Michael) Viggiani and Steven (Sheila) Sargent, both of Hiram, OH, grandchildren Michael (Jaime) Viggiani and Rebecca Viggiani, both of Garrettsville, OH, Jay Sargent, Victoria Sargent and Jessica Sargent, all of Chesterland, OH, great-grandchildren Layne Taylor and Lyla Viggiani and the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Mildred, husband James and her brother, Gordon Bennett.
Funeral service will be held at Hiram Christian Church (6868 Wakefield Rd. Hiram Ohio) on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM and the Service will be at 11:00 with Reverend Christopher McCreight of Hiram Christian Church officiating. Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services will be handling the funeral arrangements.
