Opal D. Shirey

Opal D. Shirey, age 81, of Sharon Twp. passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011. She was born in Culman, Alabama to Noah and Verdie Marie (nee Gable) Denny. Opal and Wesley were married 58 years, she enjoyed nature, bird watching, feeding the squirrels, crafts, quilting, playing the organ and being with her extended family. She leaves behind her beloved husband, many nieces and nephews, cousin Era Edwards of Alabama and her much loved dog Buster. She will be missed by many friends. Mrs. Shirey touched the lives of many people in her 26 years as custodian in the Highland Schools. Preceding Opal in death were her parents, son Charles Hollis Shirey, brother Lynville (Buck) Denny and sisters, Mildred Kilgo, Clara Acela niece Brenda Kilgo Darling and great nephews, Shayne, Terry and Chris. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 2 to 5 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt. 18) Medina, Ohio. Visitation will also be one hour prior at 10 AM to Service on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 11 AM also at the funeral home. Rev. Elmos Kilgo officiating. Burial to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Wadsworth.
