Paula (Spies) Gensemer of Medina passed away after a short illness on July 8, at the age of 88.
Paula was born in Ashland, Ohio and was a graduate of Northwestern University.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Richard Gensemer, and by her beloved sister Ruth and brother Chuck. She is survived by her children, Chris, Jill (John) and Peter (Carol). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Richard, Lizzie and Emma, and fondly remembered by her nephews and extended family and friends.
Dick and Paula were notable Medina figures. As newlyweds, they owned the Gensemer Funeral Home on the town square in the 50’s and 60’s. She was active in the AAUW, the League of Women Voters and was a Girl Scout leader.
From 1963-1971 she managed the Medina County License Bureau. Paula was a smiling face at Smythe Cramer Realty from 1971 to 1994 and then worked with Transfer Title Agency until 2008, retiring at the ripe old age of 80.
She was a devoted member of First Church of Christ, Scientist of Medina.
Paula was an avid movie-goer, reader, world traveler, bridge player, and jigsaw puzzle solver. She could knit a sweater in hours that would make Ralph Lauren green with envy.
What she didn’t do was gossip. She never said an unkind word and certainly never told a lie. That’s tricky to pull off.
Most importantly, Paula was always prepared with a batch of her Chocolate Chip or Molasses cookies, which made every visit to her – or from her – that much sweeter.
A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
