Phyllis Anne Gulyas, 88, of Hiram, passed away surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 8, 1927 to Loran and Alice (Eckfeld) Alspach in Akron, Ohio.
She was a member of the Northeast Portage County Democrats Club and won the 2005 Democrat of the Year award. Phyllis loved reading and attending book club meetings. She cherished her time that she spent reading to and teaching her students at Parkman Cardinal Schools. Phyllis was voted Cardinal Teacher of the year from 1993-1994 for the Cardinal School System. By the way I had to laugh, While raging at pitiless politics, she adored her family, her friends, humor, beauty, puzzles & flowers…you find the surprise joke, and you’ll still hear her laughing.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Denny (Christine) Gulyas of Ompah, Ontario Canada, John (Maryann Posch) Gulyas and Peter (Deborah) Gulyas of Cleveland Hits, and Ben (Linda Day) Gulyas of South Euclid; brother, Tim Alspach of Akron; sisters, Charlotte Hennessy of Akron and Sandra of Norton; grandchildren, Sandor, Christopher, Jon, Julian and Joseph and great-grandchildren, Alex and Caroline.
