Rita Jean Wagar, of Sharon Township passed away Dec 16, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born at St. Thomas of Akron to John William and Zeitha (nee Wagner) Crabtree, she was a dedicated student to her studies, graduating valedictorian from Sharon High School. Always the family woman, she worked on her family farm until meeting the love of her life, Don Wagar, with whom she started a family. Ever the dutiful family matriarch, she raised seven children, six of whom were adopted.
She was passionate about literature and writing, working as a reporter for the West Side Leader for 13 years, then working for The Post Newspaper writing articles about her community all the way until her passing.
Rita was a strong believer in community, especially Sharon Township. She wrote articles for and promoted everything in the township including but not limited to The Sharon Township Fire Department, Sharon Womens Club, and Sharon Heritage Society (where she was a life time member). She would be seen at every trustees meeting and special event making sure the community got the most accurate information possible. She was the organizer and host of the Sharon Township Christmas Gathering which took place the Sunday after Thanksgiving since 1991 until Covid and her health forced its cancelation.
She is survived by her beloved Grandson David, sons and daughters Robin Pace, Lisa Wagar, Erik Wagar, Sheila McClain, Barbara Jean Clawson, and Arthur James Wagar, and numerous grandchildren.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, and her son Rick
