Robert H. Hevner Jr., 87, of Windham, passed away July 31, 2010 in Akron, OH. He was born August 19, 1922 to Robert and Genivive ( Anderson) Hevner in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania.
Robert was a World War II veteran serving in the 190th Field Artillery. He worked as a foreman at General Refractory for 43 years and was a Windham zoning inspector for 12 years. Robert was a member of Windham United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite, York Rite, 32nd degree Mason of Garrettsville Lodge #246, V.F.W., American Legion, and Lions’ Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling, watching sports in his recliner, community service, playing baseball and umpiring in his younger years, and cherished spending time with his beloved family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Ruth (Girton); daughters Carole (Henry) Jones of Niles, and Kathy (Jeff) Zaryki of Cuyahoga Falls; sister Jean (Bud) Barnes; brother Glenn Hevner; grandchildren Angie, Stephanie, Matt, Rob, and Ben; step grandchildren Michelle, Brad, Corey; 8 great grandchildren; 5 step- great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr. and Genivive; son Larry Michael; sisters Dorothy and Gwendolyn; and brother Leslie.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd from 6-8PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 8382 center St. Garrettsville, OH 44231. Funeral services will be held at Windham United Methodist Church at 11AM on Wednesday, August 4th with visitation one hour prior at church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Windham Township Cemetery.
