ROGER A. ANGEL

January 14, 1947 — March 23, 2022

Garrettsville area businessman, Roger A. Angel, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his home. He was born January 14, 1947, in Garrettsville, to the late Lloyd and Lena (nee Engel) Angel.

A graduate of James A Garfield High School in 1965, he served in the Coast Guard on Nantucket Island from 1967 until 1971. Roger was an active member of the community. He left his fingerprint on the Village and surrounding area as a resident and business owner. Roger was an active member of the Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce and also served on the Garfield Board of Education, as well as the Garrettsville Village Council and Zoning Board. He owned the Garrettsville Dairy Queen from 1976 until his retirement in 2017. During Roger's years as owner, the DQ was remodeled, adding a drive thru, and a solarium; however, regular customers often enjoyed and remarked on the ever growing collection of automobile memorabilia and antiques festooning the dining room. Many new products were added to the menu through the years, probably the most well-known being the Blizzard. One of Roger's largest contributions to Garrettsville was the introduction of the Cruise nights held in the DQ parking lot and continuing on Main Street, Sky Plaza and the Fire Department parking area during the summer. His passion for the classic American sports car was evident with the cruise night and his collection of cars, especially his Corvette and his Thunderbird. Roger truly loved his small town of "Gville" where he was raised, graduated from high school, raised a family, and ran a popular and successful business.

Roger is survived by his soulmate of 39 years, Connie; children, Tanya (Saeed Rezaei) Angel of Columbus, OH, Lisa (Drew) Angel-Zent, of Lexington, KY, Seth (Lisa) Allyn Angel of Rochester Hills, MI; bonus children, Carrie Lee McClelland of Hackettstown, NJ, Greg (Devin) McClelland of Port Orange, FL, and Eric McClelland of Miami Beach, FL; 14 grandchildren; sister, Beverly (Ed) Kurtzman of Garrettsville, OH, as well as many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Glenn (Jean) Angel, Douglas Angel, and Barbara Angel.

There will be a visitation for Roger on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 3:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 6:00 P.M. Per Roger's wishes, he will be cremated and later inurned at the future Park Cemetery columbarium, of which he was an integral part of creating.

To honor Roger's memory, donations would be graciously accepted by the Baptist Cemetery fund, which was a project that Roger was very passionate about. Checks may be made out to the James A. Garfield Historical Society, with Baptist Cemetery written in the memo, P.O. Box 144, Garrettsville, OH 44231 or donated via Paypal, garrettsvillehistory@gmail.com , adding the Baptist Cemetery - In Memory of Roger Angel in the memo area.
