Roy Benjamin "Ben" Mumford, 67, of Cortland, left us peacefully to go to his eternal home in the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a lengthy battle with COPD and a short period of lung cancer. He was born September 4, 1943 in Zanesville, OH to the late Roy Mumford and Wilma C. Richards.
Ben previously attended high school in Garrettsville and retired as a welder. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend of many years, Wanda Mumford; children, Crystal (Paul) Stegall of Cleveland, Michelle Piatt of Leavittsburg, Benjamin (Tina) Mumford of Campbell and Vanessa (Anthony) Colburn of Leavittsburg; siblings, David (Rebecca) Richards of Lordstown and Christine (Michael) Denney of Virginia; grandchildren, Paul and Angela Stegall of Cleveland, Mindy Cool, Christen Iwanyckyj, and Roberta Piatt of Caldwell, Benjamin, Nathan, and Nakiesha Mumford of Cortland, Joey and Jimmy Faunda of Campbell, Brittnie and Crystal Caracanas of Campbell, and Aubree Colburn of Leavittsburg; great-grandchildren, Paul David and Stephen Stegall of Parma, Lennox, Ruben, and Elijah Quiles of Cleveland, Robbie, Izic, and Madison Cool of Caldwell, Naudia Iwanyckyj of Caldwell, Gavin Foreman of Caldwell, and Anjolena and J.J. Faunda of Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Michael Richards, a son, Van Edward Mumford and a sister, Patricia Wilson-Clark.
Following Ben’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Ben’s Life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Christian Harbor Church, 1787 Housel-Craft Rd., Bristolville, OH 44402 with Pastor Rick and Theresa Fincham officiating.
