Shirley L. Dery (nee Clarin), age 79 of Medina, passed away September 27, 2013 at the Hospice of Medina County. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Jerome and Rachele (nee Belfi) Clarin on July 29, 1934. Shirley and Elmer Dery were married on August 29, 1953 and spent 48 wonderful years together.
She is survived by her daughters; Theresa, Marina, and Juanita Szymanski; siblings; Ronald and Delrina, H.M. grandchildren; Sean (Vy), Jason (Amanda); great grandchild; Rocco; nieces; Gail, Elisha (Carl) Martinez, Rachele (Frank) Zona, nephew; Ronald (Debbie), and a great aunt and friend to many.
Shirley was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Church where she served as a Eucharist Minister. She was also involved with St. Vincent De Paul. Shirley was a grade school religious instructor, Pre-cana team member, foster parent, hospice volunteer, hostess for foreign exchange students, special retreats, renewal team member and lay director, also worked with missions in eastern Kentucky. When asked what her favorite memory was she said, “Pope John Paul II approached me personally shaking my hand and hugging me.” Her hobbies were seamstress, needlework, gardening, traveling and antiquing.
Preceding her in death was her beloved husband Elmer, her parents, children Gregory, Delrina, and sister in law Doris.
There will be no Visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church 606 E. Washington St. Medina on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 11 AM. (Please meet at the Church). Fr.Thomas Stock officiating. Burial to follow in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
