Shirley Ann Dick, 87, of Brunswick, has gone to Heaven to be with Jesus and her beloved husband Clarence on Saturday April 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 23, 1936, in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania to the late James and Elizabeth (nee Hall) Minerd.
Other than the love of family, Shirley loved God more than anything else. Be secure knowing she is safe in the arms of Jesus and free of any heartache and pain forever. She and Clarence were married for 51 years. They will be remembered as the owners of Medina Greenhouse and Florist for 28 years. While Clarence worked construction, Shirley became the first woman in Northern Ohio to operate a commercial greenhouse. Cleveland then was known as the greenhouse capital of the nation. At that time, they grew 70,000 geraniums each spring. Shirley graduated from Hixon’s Floral Design School in the late 70’s. She became an established watercolor and porcelain artist and served as secretary for the Medina Art League as well as a demonstrator at the Yankee Peddler Festival.
Shirley lived in Hinckley for 50 years. She helped establish the Hinckley Elementary School PTA, was part of the Hinckley Historical Society and Art League. Shirley became the Hinckley Township Zoning inspector in 1980. She also served as a poll worker for many years.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her loving children, Jonathan (Suzanne), Brian (Susan) and Shauna (Chris) Paton; grandchildren, Jackie and Josh Paton, Sean and Maggie Dick, Jason Arnold, Tyler Elfers, Sarah (Patrick) Corrigan; great-grandchildren, Lillian and Jillian Arnold; sister Deborah Sue (Hank) Polacke along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
