Thomas Mueller Kelsey, age 66, of Columbia Station, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023. He was born on July 3, 1957, to R. Thomas Kelsey and Shirley (nee Mueller) Kelsey Duff in Lakewood, Ohio. He lived his entire life in Cleveland and its western suburbs.
Tom was a great athlete and excelled at many sports. He was nationally ranked as a junior ski racer at age 12, a baseball star in high school, once hitting a home run out of the park only to smash the window of his mother’s care in the parking lot. He led a winning football team at Lakewood High School and continued to quarterback when he went to Baldwin Wallace College in Berea. He was a member of the BW Championship Team in 1978 and was named All-American for small college football in 1979.
Later in life, Tom enjoyed coaching his children and many other teams in sports. He was proud to watch his children grow and develop into successful careers and, more importantly, into loving and wise parents.
Thomas will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 20 years, Jeri Lynn Kelsey; children of a former marriage, Jennifer (Micheal King) Kelsey, Thomas (Brooke) Kelsey, and Matthew (Haley) Kelsey; grandchildren, Owen, Audrey, Lilly, and Camden; mother, Shirley Kelsey Duff; sisters, Mary Lou (William Bell) Kelsey, Susan (Steve Forbes) Kelsey, and Joan (Chris) Schlotman; and nieces and nephews, Jacob (Mackey Cassidy) Bell, Lauren (Dane McFadden) Bell, Kalsey (Morgan Zinger) Forbes, Dana (William) Sullivan, Steven (Chloe Schlossmann, Fiancé) Forbes, Kelly (Siddhesh Dere) Schlotman, Michael Schlotman, and Kevin Schlotman.
There will be a private family gathering in Tom’s memory. The Kelsey family has entrusted Thomas’s care to Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Brunswick.
