Toyoko K. Thiemke (nee Kojima), of Medina, passed away on October 13, 2010 with her family at her bedside. She was born April 20, 1923 in Japan to Kanekichi and Haru (nee Kimura) Kojima.
She met and married her husband Donald Thiemke while he was in the United States Air Force. They married at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan before she came to the United States and made this her new home. She had many jobs while living in Japan including working as a telephone operator and working in an ice house. She also had several jobs here while raising her family, but her greatest joy was raising her family and helping with her grandchildren.
Some of her happiest moments were when she became a Naturalized Citizen of the United States of America in 1973 and learning to drive.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Dana) Whittenberger of Chippewa Lake, Karen Bosak (Jim Bollam) of Las Vegas and Patricia Yankovic of Medina; grandchildren, Michael (Renee) and David Whittenberger, Tara, Brandon and Brittany Bosak and Melissa Yankovic; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Ava and Hunter; nephews Rikizo and Sankich Otsuka of Japan and sister-in-laws Shirley (Ron) Coates and Myrtle Malley.
Toyoko was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald, her parents, son Donald A. Thiemke, infant twin daughters, her sister Hatsu (who was like her mother); her siblings and her niece Fumiko (who was like her sister).
Friends may join the family for visitation on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road (1/2 mile South of Route 303), Brunswick. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment to following in Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Brunswick, Ohio.
