Vartouhi ("Rose") Kouyoumdjian, 85, of Hinckley, stretched out her hand and held the hand of God on December 10, 2014.
She leaves behind her four daughters, Rose (Richard) Paratto, Martha (Arsen) Mekaelian, Anoush (Sarkis) Mareshlian, and Virginia (Paul) Najarian. She was that solid voice of reason and wisdom to her children, and grandchildren, Michael, Kevork, Mikhail, Noubar, Martha, Khoogas, Christian, Ardemis, Paul and Dziadzan. She is survived by her sister Lucy (John) Aghabekian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noubar, her parents Zakariah and Verjin Khacherian, Sisters Ani, Manoushag, Zaroug, Hasmig, brothers Garo and Bedros.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1929 in Beirut, Lebanon, and moved with the family to the Old City Jerusalem (Palestine) in 1930, where she was schooled, and learned to design and sew clothes. She left at the age of 23 with her husband, Noubar, landing at Ellis Island. Their dream to arrive in America to raise their family had begun. They settled in Chicago in 1953 and subsequently Cleveland in 1955. They moved to Hinckley, Ohio in 1959, where she opened up her own business, "Hinckley Tailoring and Alterations." In addition to her love of sewing, she was well known for her baking (especially Paklava) and warm hospitality. She made you feel like you were always welcome whenever you would just 'drop by' and always had coffee and pastries to welcome you. She will be truly missed. Rest in peace.
