City: Verne H. Dillworth, of Granger Twp. passed away on January 7, 2012 at the Hospice of Medina County at the Inn. He was born October 24, 1921 in Akron to William and Beulah Dillworth. Verne leaves to miss him terribly, his son, Jerry Dillworth of Granger; daughter Niki (Joe) Hayes of Granger, his adored grandchildren, Joseph (JJ) and Jennifer Hayes and his special buddy, Toby. He also leaves his sister, Flora Jones and Margaret Williams of Copley and brother Joe of Melrose, FL. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 68 years, Mae in 2010, his parents, brothers Charles, Bernard and Gerald, sisters, Lotta Terry and Clara Ranallo. Verne proudly served his country for three years in the 83rd Infantry Div. of the U. S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in France on July 4, 1944. He loved to draw and was known as the company Cartoonist. Verne and Mae moved from Akron to Granger Twp. in 1956 and he truly loved being a “Gentleman Farmer”, growing crops, raising cattle and especially growing his special Corn King Silver Queen sweet corn. He always kept busy and moving. Verne retired as the Cleveland Branch Manager from Grange Mutual Insurance Co. in 1987 with 25 years of service. He also enjoyed serving 30 years on the Granger Twp. Zoning Board. He was past commander of the Polish Legion of American Veterans in Akron. Verne was always known for his kindness, quick wit and sense of humor; he will especially be remembered for his “Verne-isms” such as “I’ll have a cup of coffee and a roll downstairs” or when being asked if he needed anything, replying: “Just a few kind words.” We will especially remember his made up songs, which he sang whenever and wherever he wanted. Where have all the flowers gone, Dad? A heartfelt Thank You to his amazing friends, Tracie Smith and Diane Reichle. We can’t thank you enough for your care and compassion.
