Virginia Louise Winchell Virginia Louise Winchell, 83, of Garrettsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. She was born April 13, 1927 in Ravenna, Ohio to the late John and Margaret (Koteles) Spaeth.
Virginia graduated from Mantua Center School, Class of “45.” She married her husband of 64 years, Roger Winchell on Sept. 21, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mantua, and together, they ran the family farm. Virginia was a dedicated organist at St. Ambrose Catholic Church for many decades. She was a 4-H advisor and an excellent baker. Known as the “Pie Lady” in the community for many years, she also judged baked goods at the county fair. Another passion of hers was Winchell Farms Crafts. She enjoyed county fairs her entire life and never missed the Burton or Randolph Fair. She was a great tractor pull fan and an animal lover. She especially cherished spending time with her family and friends.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Roger; children, Beverly (Charles) Sorrick and David (Polly) Winchell, all of Garrettsville; brother-in-law, Albert Bodnar of Mantua; grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Bertsch of Munroe Falls, James (Margie) Brittan of Stow, John Winchell of New York, and Jessica Winchell of Garrettsville; and great-grandchildren, Laura and Logan Brittan.
Preceding Virginia in death are her parents, son, John, and sister, Katherine Bodnar.
Calling hours are 6-8 PM on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 10692 Freedom St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua Center, OH.
