Vivian Moses, 90, of Garrettsville, passed on peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 27, 2009. She was born February 23, 1919 to the late Hiram George and Elvena Belle (Hall) Askew at Windsor Mils, Ohio in Ashtabula County.
She was the youngest of three children. Her brother, Ernest Hall Askew and sister, Edith Irene Askew, both preceded her in death. Vivian was a Garrettsville resident since 1935. She graduated from Garrettsville High School in June of 1939. She was an avid music lover and earned a scholarship to study voice and piano at the Cleveland School of Music in 1940-41.
She married Edwin Lawrence “Pete” Moses (1913-1974) in 1942 and was the mother of two boys, Donald and James. Vivian worked for Pelsue Drug Store from 1949 to 1957 and was restaurant manager for Howard Johnson’s Company on the Ohio Turnpike from 1958 to 1979. She enjoyed singing in the choir at the Hiram Christian Church and with the Granny Singers. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing with Arthur Murray Dance Studio.
In her retirement years she enjoyed cooking, baking and canning fruit. She also liked painting many pastoral scenes in acrylics.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald and James; two grandchildren, Steve and Melody; and five great grandchildren.
Calling hours are 6-8 PM on Friday, January 29th at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Oh. 44231. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM at Park Cemetery on Saturday, January 30th.
