Walter “Walt” Joseph Bukszar, age 93, of Brunswick, went to meet his Lord on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
He was born on March 14, 1930, the 6th child of the late John and Anna (nee Kovach) Bukszar.
While growing up on Buckeye Rd, he attended St. Elisabeth Hungarian Church. As a student at West Tech High School in Cleveland he was on the football team and ran track.
Walt was a stinker, at 11 years old he was learning the way of the neighborhood. He told many stories about how he’d run the streets. He and his friends would sneak into the zoo and play there all day. As a teenager he worked as a golfer’s caddy and whitewashed the glass for multiple greenhouses.
While working in Mentor he saw the love of his life strutting across the football field as head majorette. She was forever his girlfriend and they married on February 3, 1951, on a cold stormy winter day. Walt heard of a village where housing was affordable in 1957 (Brunswick, Ohio). With 5 kids in tow all under the age of 7 he jumped right in. A man never afraid to take a chance, a straight shooter, and never minced his words. He helped form the city of Brunswick and St. Ambrose Church.
Walt was a member of the Holy Name Society; the Knights of Columbus and was Grand Knight in 1962; served as president on the Democratic Club; on the Recreational Board he worked on bringing extended phone service to Brunswick; Citizen Advisory to the planning commission; Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 10 years and a member for 12 years; Chairman of Clean-up Brunswick Committee. Through his efforts the city was awarded the beautification award. Walt was also involved in youth sports and scouting.
He worked for the Plain Dealer, Medina Gazette, and Master sales and service. In 1973, Walt’s Pizza was established. The sole proprietor known for his home-made sausage pizza and spaghetti sauce. After 44 ½ years well into his 80s Walt retired.
You could see Walt on his bicycle through the streets of Brunswick. Ten miles a day. Walt was a resident of Brunswick and parishioner of St Ambrose for over 65 years. He always had time for family and was there to help a friend. Walt was a loving husband, beloved dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
Walt lived a full and long life with no regrets. And enjoyed feeding ya all!!
