WESLEY E. SHIREY

Wesley E. Shirey, age 88 of Sharon Township, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016. He was born on March 29, 1928 to Hollis and Edna (nee Schickling) Shirey in Clearfield, PA.

He and Opal (nee Denny) shared 58 happy years together until her passing on December 15, 2011. Together in life they made many friends. Wesley and Opal worked as Custodians for the Highland Schools. He was proud of his service in United States Army Reserve enlisting in 1950, and receiving his certificate in Wheel Vehicle Field Maintenance. He was honorably discharged as Sgt. First Class in 1959. He was a life time member of the American Legion Rittman, Ohio, Post 423. Wesley was a determined, strong willed gentleman, getting back on his feet, after spinal meningitis in his young years, losing his hearing; he learned how to walk and did all he could to recover. If you had the chance to meet Wes, you heard many life adventures and accomplishments. The proudest of Wesley’s life stories was that of his love of his life Opal. He enjoyed his home, garden, collecting trains and especially his dog Buster.

He will be missed by his extended family members; nieces; Kathy, Linda (Jim), Marge (Jan), Judy (Bob), nephew; Charles, and family member George, also many trusted and caring friends. Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife and son Charles Hollis.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 1 to 3 PM followed by Funeral Service at 3 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx & Rt. 18), Medina, Ohio 44256. Interment with his “one and only love” at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 9560 Acme Road, Seville, Ohio 44273 on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:30 AM.
