William L. "Bill" Eckman, 88, of Windham, joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 1, 2023. He was born in Youngstown on May 7, 1934, to the late Ruth (nee Stone) Eckman and James Eckman, and he was raised by both as well as James’ wife, the late Georgia (nee Lookabaugh) Eckman, who was a bonus mother to Bill.
He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army. Bill enjoyed bible study, wood working, gardening and spending time with his family. He loved working on old vehicles. He was a great auto body man, which was his career most of his adult life. He loved teaching Sunday School and could have been a great preacher. He would ask people if they died today where would they be tomorrow. He influenced many people with his testimony.
Bill will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Judith Ellen Eckman, with whom he was blessed to share nearly 65 years of marriage; children, Sherry, Lloyd, and Lawrence. He was Mr. Mom and helped raise 7 grandchildren, Christin, Ryan, Jessica, Jennifer, Josephine, Buddy, and Corie, who, in childhood looked forward to their afternoon nap time where Bill would tell them bible stories; 17 great grandchildren, Benny, Ava, Allen, Alyssa, Cameron, Hudson, Ari, Carter, Kaidyn, Judah, Levi, Zion, Noel, Adeline, Amelia, Thatcher, and Ezra; 2 great-great grandchildren, Ilaiah and Braxton, as well as many nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Jimmy Eckman, Judy Eckman Strohm, and Carol Eckman Lang.
Please join the family for visitation on Sunday, May 7, 2023, 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M., at the Windham Bible Church, 9550 Windham Parkman Rd., Windham, OH 44288. A funeral service will begin at the church at 4:00 P.M., with Bill's grandson, Pastor Buddy Eckman, officiating. Immediately after the funeral service, military honors will be rendered for Bill. Bill's service will be livestreamed, for the convenience of those unable to physically attend.
